I have the p67 professional fatality board and it has been faulty since day one. It sometimes decides not to recognize the Ethernet drivers/adapter so I can't connect to Internet.

I have i7-2600k-stock fan
GeForce gti 550 or 560
8 gig ram 1600

I am going to best buy tomorrow to finally switch out this motherboard. What would you recommend the best one to get for this setup.

I don't do much gaming and mostly need fast processing as I trade stocks with many programs running and need constant data feeds refreshing.
I would like to overclock but I know I need upgraded fan. I liked at with this board I could just go into the bios and overclock everything easy. I would also like recommendations for what fans to get but I'm also not sure if they universally fit on every motherboard or how that works lol my friend built this for me a while ago and now I'm on my own. Thanks for any help!

From what's still available for that socket type, which isn't that much in the less expensive arena, I'd go with this board unless you want to pay upwards of 160 bucks for a higher end model. This is an older design and there isn't much still going for it as far as availability.

As far as the CPU cooler goes, that depends highly on what case model you have and how much CPU cooler clearance there is. Do you know the model of your case?

That's MY same case. Just in case you might want to do some modifications to it, here's my thread on that case:

You can easily fit a tower cooler in that case. I'd highly recommend the Noctua NH-U14S which is a little bit pricy, but well worth it for the performance and quiet operation. As a cheaper alternative, you could go with a Cryorig H5. Just about any tower cooler will fit.

oh thats awesome. im having trouble loading it as i am tethering my phone and its going in and out. i will check it out when it gets back up.

i will order that board you showed me. but someone locally is selling one and id rather do that so i dont have to wait and can work monday. he said he has to check which exact model it is but its a Gigabyte z77. said its compatible with the 1155 socket which is my i72600k. said i can overclock it from the bios. 120$. new in box. would you recommend this one or is the one you linked better?

I think the point is, he's had issues with the board since day one. I'm kinda reading into it that it's more than just the Ethernet adapter. Otherwise, if it IS just the Ethernet adapter, then I'd agree that all you need is a PCI Ethernet card. Even a USB Ethernet adapter would probably work.

I wouldn't go with a TP Link product though. Too problematic. This would be a much better choice. Intel adapters are simply much more reliable than almost any other adapter except maybe a couple of Cisco and some higher end adapters:

As far as the Gigabyte board is concerned, it depends on the exact model number. Gigabyte boards are generally about as reliable as it gets, but they have, or used to have, a couple of Z77 boards that are garbage.

thanks for the help dark breeze. yeah its been giving me trouble since day 1. if i shake it the worng way the ethernet stops working. and when its in that mode it doesnt recognize the pci either. ive tried that :(

That's kinda what I inferred from your description of the issues. After reading another review on the Extreme4, I'm not so sure it's the best choice, although it IS the least expensive of the still available Z77 boards.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/02/06/asrock_z77_extreme4_lga_1155_motherboard_review/6#.VXOSP-nbJhE

So you'll have to decide whether your budget allows for a more expensive board or if that board will work. As I said before, the pickings are getting slim for these since they're not being manufactured anymore.

Quite honestly, considering the cost of the parts with little availability, and the fact that the Extreme4 is about the only non-Intel Z77 board still available for under two hundred bucks, it might not be the worst idea to upgrade at this time. For the cost of a really good Z77 board, you could have a much newer board and CPU.

Of course you can just go with the Extreme4 and the H7 cooler, if they're even available at Best Buy, which may not be likely depending on the size of town you live in and how diverse their selection is.

yeah best buy doesnt carry any motherboards apparently. found that out today.

i ended up buying this z77 gigabyte ud4h. got her up and running now. its so nice! at least compared to what i was dealing with before lol was 120$. finally able to clean the dust off and also get the 2 fans on the tower to start working. i didnt even know there was a fan in front until i saw your thread lol. i thought u added that on. so now the one in back and front are working and my core temperatures are now sitting at about 40-50C. before they were constantly at 80C im wondering if i could over clock maybe to at least 4 ghz on this stock setup i have now. still using stock heatsink.

Get a good aftermarket cooler if you want to overclock. I HIGHLY recommend the Noctua NH-U14S. I took my 3.5Ghz FX-8320 to 4.5Ghz and with the modifications I made to the case I can't get the core temp over 49°C no matter how long I run Prime95 on small FFT's. 24 hour run and it was still showing the max temp had been 49°C.

I could probably take it to 4.8 stable, but I don't really see the point as it does what I need it to do for now.
