Hello guys, a friend of mine asked me for info about his first gaming build, so I'm making this thread to get more info. He has two systems in mind. He wants a classic ROG build and from the other hand, a futureproof x99 build. He wants to know which is the best out of these two for gaming and minor video editing purposes. He plays Witcher 3, Watchdogs, WoW and generally every new game that comes out.

X99 Build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/x3fwJx

ROG Build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZZ4zdC

Please keep in mind that the prices are exactly his budget so anything you suggest please let it be in the same price range!

Basically from what he told he, he has lowered the RAM and SSD capacity to 8gb and 120gb to be able to afford the more expensive CPU and MOBO. The question is how much better the 5820k is from the 4790k and the X99-A from the VII Hero? He told me that the RAM and SSD are things he could save up and buy later because they are easy to replace. For example it's easier to buy another stick of ram or a second SSD later than buying a new CPU, GPU or something.

Z97 Build FTW!

Besides that this is like $200 out of his budget, a GTX 980Ti is way overkill for 1080p. That card is meant for 1440p and 4k. It's like having a Ferrari engine in a Mini Cooper if you use that card for 1080p.

It is about $150 difference, but the OP didn't state a budget limit, so I went all out for a gaming rig. The OP doesn't mention which resolution he is using, unless I mis-read his post.
