TITAN X Superclocked vs GTX 980Ti Windforce 3x

I'm sure many of you are going to say this is stupid, but I'd actually like some honest opinions on this one. I currently own the EVGA Titan X Superclocked card, and recently saw that Gigabyte is releasing the Windforce 3x G1 version of the 980Ti. From what I've seen there is a barely visible difference in performance between the Titan X and 980Ti, except the 12gb vs 6gb vram (Which I understand 12gb is overkill). The EVGA cooler on my card isn't the best, and was just honestly curious if returning the card and going to the Windforce 980Ti is actually worth it? I mean I'd be saving $350 if I had just held off for the 980Ti in the first place. But is the Windforce cooler and the money difference worth it? Will over 6gb vram actually be useful for 4k in the future? Most people are saying the only benefit of the Titan X is bragging rights at this point.

my personal choice--980ti-- big cost difference for not much performance difference in gaming

how long will 6gb be good for? no way to tell for sure but got to be a decent length of time i would think

but i am at 2560 x 1440 not 4k

and nothing stupid about asking--its stupid not to ask if not sure

Thanks for that info. That's the kind of response I hope to get when I start a thread about this subject. I'm going to keep dwelling on it. The vram topic does make me wonder, but like you said no way to tell for sure.

Can you return the titanX for a full refund?
If so, then a GTX980ti would indeed save you some $ and give you essentially the same performance.

But, there may be some availability issues for any GTX980ti.
And... I am not so hot on heavily overclocked cards with fancy coolers.
A simple GTX980ti with a modest factory overclock would be my pick.

quite honestly i think by the time 6gb of vram becomes an issue there will be newer cards out that you would probably want to or already have upgraded to any way

about another 10 days or so to see what HBM memory can do with the new AMD cards i think

if HBM memory is a hit think new cards using it will be on nvidias list of to do

Yeah I believe so. I think I have around 19 days to return for a full refund. I'd say the 6gb vram really isn't an issue to me. I think the main thing for me now is that I'd like to save that money that could go towards a 4k monitor, and also that I'm sure the Windforce cooler would be a better cooling option (quieter too).

neither. get the titan x hybird kit from evga.

http://www.evga.com/products/Product.aspx?pn=400-HY-H980-B1

or get the hybird cooled 980 ti.

As for VRAM. Over 6GB will be useful one-day--and probabaly in a year or two with modding. However both the Titan X and 980 ti are just barely able to get a good experience on 4k gaming and definitely don't hit 60 FPS on Ultra with AAA games. So because of that, by the time you'll want more than 6gb of ram, you'll want a stronger gpu too.

IMO the 980ti is the perfect 1440p card while only an entry level 4k card.

I wonder if I got that hybrid kit, could I still have the geforce gtx logo. Also I'm assuming since it's made by evga and I have the evga card it wouldn't void the warranty.

some gpu companies are more flexible when it comes to using watercooling

msi for example as long as you dont cause damage by fitting a waterblock are ok about it

had this the other day when some one said even the slightest modification to gpu would void the warranty--but again i lost the link to official MSI rep saying they would be flexible if the block didnt cause the fault--lol i need to be more organised

basically their legal bumf still says modifying voids warranty--but they just leave the legal bit as it is and look at it case by case--if you watercool it and that hasnt caused the fault then warranty should be intact

can always email evga to check if their policy is the same

i think the geforce logo goes.
also it depends. on my card i gotta remove the void warranty sticker to get rid of the stock heatsink
but I used a hot air gun to peal the sticker off without voiding it.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll email them

some companies are more enthusiast/modders friendly than others

swiftech authorised my taking apart my pump without voiding the warranty

they even offered to guide me through it by video link if i was unsure of anything

the support from bryan at swiftech was the best i have ever seen
