hi i'm contemplating between getting either 8gb of team xtreem ram or gskill ram. I can get the team xtreem ddr3 8gb for $60 and on the other hand i can get gskill ddr3 8gb ram for $68.99 CDN + tax. I'm not looking to overclock the memory, just looking to get memory that will not serve me any problems and do it's jobs.

will the team group memory be reliable enough to do its job? I've never heard of it but as long as it performs like any other name-brand then I'll be fine with it.

Team Xtreem are good sticks, I lean to GSkill for most builds, but here you are looking at 2400 vs 1600, so the Team would be the better choice. Did an article recently on DRAM performance (AMD vs Intel) and the Team Xtreem came out on top with AMD and was right there with the Tridents in 2400 sticks on Intel

They're fine, yes. They both come with a lifetime warranty. In reality, neither one of these companies actually make memory chips so the brand name on the sticker is irrelevant to reliability.

No they don't make the chips, nor the solder or PCB, they put them all together to make the sticks and then they guarantee them - which is where reliability comes from

Now I think you're arguing just to argue. A DRAM that doesn't work at all would indeed be a defect in the manufacturing process; it rarely happens and in any case, BOTH of these memories come with lifetime warranties (and in fact, you would be hard pressed to find memory that doesn't have lifetime warranty, it simply doesn't fail very often).
An actual correctable or uncorrectable memory error such as would cause a program to crash or a computer to bluescreen\crash\stop are virtually 100% of the time an error in the DIMM itself and as such, have nothing at all to do with the brand of memory. I do admit I made an assumption that this is what the OP was referring to when he mentioned reliability, but given that the overwhelming percentage of memory errors are of this type (calculation errors in the DIMM itself) I think it is a reasonable assumption to make.

TL;DR

Both of these memories are quality sticks, made by reputable companies and with lifetime warranties; the Team stick is simply faster memory and costs less and as such is better.

No I was simply pointing out the sticks are made by the manufacturers, many would take your statement to mean the manufacturer doesn't make the sticks (which many claim) and the BRAND NAME on the sticks is indeed relevant as to the quality of the DRAM, counter to what you stated. There are plenty of brands I won't use.
