Hi, the Intel i3 4170 was released in March 2015, only 2 expensive z97 motherboards are compatible with this procesor out of the box.

Do i need to contact the seller regarding the manufacturing date of the motherboard before buying it because that's a lot of trouble for me as i'm buying it from online store from outside my country.

Do those motherboards that require BIOS update boot up to enable the BIOS update?

You sure about that? So the motherboard with outdated non-compatible BIOS will still start up and allow me to do a BIOS update?

I can get this motherboard for crazy cheap Gigabyte B85M-HD3, the strange think is that it supports the i3 4170 out of the box even if that BIOS version was created several mounths before the CPU, how is that possible and could it be a bug on Gigabyte website?

They wont move past post if the CPU is not supported. I had the same with a z87 board and a 4690k.

Many sellers however if you call them up on the phone will be happy to update the bios for you before shipping if you ask nicely.

If its a component retailer like ebuyer.

3rd party amazon marketplace sellers are less likely to be nice.

No, you'd have to replace the BIOS chip or use Flashback (on some ASUS boards).

It could be.

I am thinking about the same thing. But is there a company where it is easier to update the bios than others? Or do they all require a compatible cpu before it is possible?
