The A4 Tech has a higher resolution, but its image quality is significantly lower. If you load the software that comes from the manufacturer, it becomes an okay camera - but I would not recommend it. Basically it is a camera that looks good if you read the specifications, but is not as good when you try it out.

The best webcam in your price range is the Logitech HD Webcam C270, but like I said it looks really cheap. The Creative webcams have a better appearance, but the actual hardware controlling the camera is not as good. If you have good lighting, all of the cameras that I mentioned originally will work great. If the light only comes from one side, though (like a window or torch lamp), the picture from the Logitech will look better...

Personally, I use a Creative Live! Cam Chat HD webcam. It is an older model, so it costs less now than when it first came out. It is a 720p webcam with a pretty good display and decent microphone. You just plug it in by USB on a Windows PC and it doesn't need any drivers to be used. If you want to set the brightness or contrast, you can use the Creative software that can be downloaded for free at www.creative.com .

This webcam is just under $20 at Amazon:

The newer model of this is also available, and it is called the Creative Live! Cam Sync HD. It puts the camera sensor in the middle, which is a little more desirable, but the microphone seems to have a lower volume. It is also a 720p webcam and is actually cheaper on Amazon:

Logitech models are also very popular, but they tend to be more expensive. Given the $30 budget, I excluded them from my recommendations. The basic Logitech webcam is the HD Webcam C270 and the automatic video correction on it is better than the Creative ones that I mentioned above, but I personally hate how cheap it looks. You can find it on Amazon at:

The best webcam I have used is the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, but it retails for $100. It is a 1080p webcam with hardware video encoding, so the PC it is connected to does not have to use much CPU power when in a video chat. You can check it out here:

Are you in the USA? I assumed that you were, as it was not mentioned.

The software for all of the webcams will let you adjust for lighting and color differences, but most people don't want the hassle.

Ideally you would find someone you know who has one of these webcams and borrow it for a couple of days to see if you like it. Just because a webcam works great on one person's computer at a specific location does not mean that it will be the same where you intend to have it.

Cheaper webcams usually need more CPU power on a computer because they do less internally and pass more of the work on to the PC. The A4 is a prime example of that. Technically it is a high resolution webcam, but it needs a lot of help from the PC to do nearly anything well, and the quality of the image does not seem to be very good.
