I have a ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 ATX motherboard, with a amd fx-6300 in it. The built in heatsink on the Mb gets so hot that I cant even touch it, is that a bad thing or is it ok for it to get that hot? Thanks

That's probably somewhat normal, especially if you're overclocking. In reality, that's a pretty old chipset, and the board doesn't have the greatest thermals or power phase, and is probably not the best choice for an FX 6 or 8 core chip. As seen at the following link, that's a VERY low quality board with terrible thermal qualities. I'd replace the board with something like the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P or MSI 970 Gaming, at minimum.

Well, consider that anything over about 55c is going to be too hot to touch, but the thermal limit on it is going to be closer to twice that temp, so there is simply no way to tell just by touching if it is too hot.

Yep, I don't trust my touch alone. At times I feel something is hotter than something else but my IR gun confirms they were the same. I trust my measuring equipment.
