Im looking to update my system which is AMD based. It is mostly a gaming and browsing computer. Components are as listed.

AMD FX 6300 unlocked (Stock speeds)
ASUS M5a78-LMX/USB3
8gb of Crucial RAM
MSI R7 265
Corsair 500 PSU
Cooler master n520 cpu cooler
Rosewill Galaxy 02 Case

I'd like to get the opinions of the community on some ideas I have for the upgrade. If I am persuaded to stick with the AMD cpu I will be upgrading very soon, however if I go with an entirely new intel build, it will take much longer. I would prefer to keep the fx6300 and just upgrade the motherboard, cpu cooler, and maybe the graphics card. The current mobo is not capable for reliability or overclocking. Any opinions welcome, but please keep the AMD vs intel debate based off of facts not bias. I understand both companies shortcomings but do admire both's products. Thank you very much.

For 500$ i wouldnt put anymore money in AM3+ socket (no good upgrade path)

I would get this

I'd say my budget is around 250, a little more if I upgrade more. Is there a specific reason that you recommend not getting a new motherboard? I would like to overclock the cpu unless that won't accomplish much. The system is for 1080 usage.

when i said dont get the mobo i meant, rather spend that money on better GPU it will give way more FPS boost than less powerfull GPU with overclocked CPU.

Because of your PSU limitations (is it CX series ?) your best option is to get GTX 960

Yes it is a CX series. I'd be willing to upgrade mobo, psu, and gpu. About 500 really. I guess my first question should have added "how can I upgrade my system for upcoming games with $500." I'll take a look at the 960 as an option. I can always sell or keep old components.

I have to agree, AMD does only seem to be an entry point company at this time. The intel build would require substantially more performance for me to justify an entirely new build. I think going "full out" for that would be required haha.
