OC is an option on a k series cpu, not a necessity by any means. That goes double for the 4790k as it's already the single most powerful LGA1150 cpu stock. If you wanted to use the hyper212 at stock speeds, that's just fine. Understanding turbo helps. At 1-2 core turbo, the cpu is 4.4GHz, at 3 core it's 4.3Ghz and 4 cores usage it's 4.2GHz. This helps to maintain heat and stability under heavy loads. The hyper212 can handle all 4 cores at 4.4GHz-4.5GHz, which would be considered a small OC, and still have good temps and sound volume. It's definitely superior to the stock cooler, but anything higher will definitely need a better cooler.

If you don't plan on a high OC, then the hyper212 would be good for a small bump or stock speeds.

Looks great. Will the cooler get you to the O/C you're looking for? That being asked, I don't think it will have a problem keeping the chip at decent temps for mild O/Cing, and possibly good O/Cs if you have won the lottery and can run at low enough voltages. Have fun!:)

Go with the Asus pro mobo that has built in wifi. It is cheaper and better then your current board and you can skip the wifi adapter then.

That i7 has a base clock of 4.0GHz and turbo of 4.4GHz. It's by far the hottest running of the LGA1150 cpus when HT is enabled and used. The hyper212 is honestly not going to be of much use for anything but stock speeds and still maintain decent temps. It's only viable usage is for sound. It'll be much quieter than the stock cooler. If you are looking to get 4.5GHz or better from that cpu, you'd be advised to get a cooler better able to handle the volume.

And if I don't overclock?
