Hi guys, im currently looking to upgrade my pc/monitor.

My current specs are: Asus Crosshair V Formula, AMD Phenom II x6 1090T (OC'D to 3.8ghz), 6GB of corsair dominator ram, Radeon 7950 and a 650w corsair psu.

I am looking to upgrade to a R9 290x, a 1440p korean monitor and either a 8350 or switch to intel and get an i5. I'm currently at the point where I can afford one of these changes and then get the rest later. Which should I get first? And what should I get after?

AMD has their own version of Intel's Flex tech, where equal amounts of DRAM in each channel operate in dual while the odd amount runs in single, so here it would be 4GB in dual and 2 GB in single channel mode, not positive but believe all versions of the Crosshair support this, mine does ;)
I am curious about one thing.. Your motherboard has 4 memory slots. It is a dual channel system. And you say you have 6GB. So I am sitting here thinking, and something is not right. They do not make 1.5GB or 3GB memory sticks. So how did you get to 6GB?

3x2gb

These motherboards are dual channel. Having 2 sticks in one channel and one in the other causes the memory controller to treat all 3 sticks as single channel memory. So you lose a lot of performance.

With a dual channel memory controller, in order for the dual channel system to work in dual channel mode, you need to have one of the following:

2 x 2GB
2 x 4Gb
2 x 8GB
4 x 2GB
4 x 4Gb

If you are running a Pro or higher Windows, a 4 x 8GB setup is also an option.
