Hello fellow gamers and IT specialists, here is my first PC i'm going to make and before i buy all of the stuff are they all compatible with each other? Are there any components that i could swap out with something that is better than the ones i have mentioned (something not too pricey)?

Mother Board = MSI S1150 ATX H97 GAMING 3 Motherboard

PSU = 850 Watt Thermaltake Tough Power DPS GOLD Modular Power Supply PN PS-TPG-0850DPCG-G

CPU = Intel S1150 Core i7 4790K 4.00Ghz Quad Core CPU

RAM = DDR3 8GB (2x4G) G.Skill TridentX 2666MHz Ram Kit PN F3-2666C11D-8GTXD

GPU = NVIDIA GTX970 4GB Gigabyte PCIe Video Card PN GV-N970WF3OC-4GD

HDD = 1TB HGST Travelstar 2.5" 7200rpm Notebook SATA 6Gb/s HDD PN 0J22423

DVD Writer Samsung 24x SATA Black PN SH-224DB/BEBS

CASE = Deepcool ATX Tesseract SW Case White with Window

Everything and anything will be useful, i really just want to make one PC that will be future proof. Right now this build is just under $1700 AUD, would i be better off buying from other countries? I will also be adding in a SSD, once i find an affordable one.

Solution
This will record just fine on high/ultra. We do not know how good optimization will be in future so we do not know but for a few next years you're safe. Intel Xeon are mostly server CPUs, although they do have many threads and cores they are not well optimized for games. Also most of them are expensive so for now stick with i5. This motherboard will grant you upgrading in years to come, as i said you have the option to install another 980 because i chose an SLI capable motherboard, and LGA1150 socket which is still not dead.
Yes you remained under $1700 but you got a 970 where i got 980, you got i7 4790k which is better yes, but not much in terms of gaming performance but going to i5 will save you some $$$. Also i included an SSD which...

My only observation is that you're paying more on the CPU than the GPU; if this build is for gaming then the balance should be the other way around.

Also go for a desktop HDD (3.5 inch, not 2.5 inch) they'll be more reliable. Anything from Western Digital or Seagate is fine.

You can check if the build is compatible here http://pcpartpicker.com

Also you're probably spending too much on PSU power and not enough on actual compute (GPU) power.

I'll be using also to record and do most of my college work ( Studying IT). But it will mostly be based around gaming, i don't really want to go for a GTX 980 because it is like $752*. Also the i7 and 970 are almost the same price.

* Take note this is all in Australian Dollar

Here's less that 1700 AUD but with a GTX980, SSD and you can later on put another 980 in SLI.

How will it go with recording? Will it be able to record and also play GTA5 on high/ultra settings? Will it run most/all games in high/ultra for the next few years? Also the build i showed you is also less than $1700

It will run fairly well in future games. You can't be sure at the moment what requirements games in the future will need, but this is certainly a futureproofed system.

How about with recording games that are in high/ultra? Will the FPS still be steady?
