Hi,

so one day I turn my pc on and there is no signal to monitors. I thought gpu died, but everything seemed to work fine and pc did bootup, though I did not see anything. I tried to take out and reinsert gpu, but that did not help. Finally, I put it on the secondary slot which then worked fine.

My question is: Is it common that gpu slot just stops working? I did not do anything apart from shutting down pc for the night and turning back on in the morning. It's first time I hear this happen. Is it possible to try something to make it work?

Second, will my gpu will be able to perform to max on secondary slot? Should I just ignore it and use it as usual? Unfortunately I am 2 months after my warranty has ended, so replacement is a no go.

MB: Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4
GPU: Radeon 7970

Thank you

if it is a dead pci-e then it wont be long before something else goes.
so start saving for a new board asap.

i know you think its not the bios its 2 minutes and worth a look.
especially if your not the only 1 who uses your machine.

check in the bios that you havent switched your peg-1 mode to a higher valuer like peg-2/peg-3
this manually sets which pci-e slot the pc looks for the primary boot gpu.
basically you could have just turned off the top most pci-e.
if you havent and it is broken then the board needs a RMA.

I highly doubt i managed to turn off in bios as i did not do any configuring. Since mb is over 3 years i cant rma it. So far secondary pcie slot seems to work fine. I just never heard for this specific part to break out of the blue.
