In terms of performance on a mainly gaming computer, would the upgrade to an 8350 be worth it for better performance or no. I feel my 6300 is currently bottlenecking my 290 so I can't currently enjoy my games at 60 FPS.

Current rig:
FX6300
R9 290 4GB
8GB RAM at 2133

You could save money if you got an 8320 and did a small overclock. That would pair decently with your 290. That's what i'm currently running and it does alright. The 8350 is almost the same as the 8320, just clocked higher.

OC the 6300. Get 6 cores at the same clock speed you could from the 8350.
Be happy.

Or spend $400 plus on an Intel cpu/mob, plus well over $100 on a new OS, if yours is an OEM, using the same video card, and then wonder why you spent over $500 to gain anywhere from zero to 10 or 15 fps.

Your call.

as much as it pains me to say this, because i own an 8320, buy an intel. The 8350 is like a slightly higher clock of the 8320 and it's not as good for gaming as intel.

If that's all you can afford though, it would be a nice upgrade. Or you could just overclock the hell out of that 6300 and get a nice cooler.

Well, getting rid of my board and cpu for an intel set it out of the question, mainly because of the cost and the work of me re-doing my entire system. I have a decent aftermarket cooler on my 6300 as of now, I believe its a Cooler Master RR-910-HTX3-G1.
