Hi all,

I have an Asus G551JW which has an i7 4720HQ processor. When my power plan is set to balanced and the computer is idle the task manager indicates the CPU is running at about 3.4 to 3.5 GHz. CPU Utilization in this scenario is about 20% always.

When I set the power plan to power saving mode, the task manager indicates the clock at 0.78 GHz almost always and utilization is about 4 to 8 percent.

I am running Panda Free AV. I did a scan. Nothing unusual. No viruses. When idle, the process taking most amount of CPU time is rundll32.

Why is the clock always so high on the balanced power plan? On high performance plan, it is the same. This is expected but the clock almost never comes down on balanced mode. Sometime, for a split second it comes down but almost immediately it goes back up.

Regards.

P.S.: Core Temps are about 60C to 75C when idle. If I run Lockheed Martin's Prepar3d, temps are going upto 80C to 88C.

Guys, sorry if I bothered y'all. I fixed it myself. There was a process called rundll32.exe which was eating some CPU cycles even when the system was idle. This 'task' was being triggered by the requirement of a software inventory to be updated related to some application experience or something. By disabling the task, I solved the problem. Everything is fine now.
