I have 3 HDD (C drive for windows, D drive for Games and E drive for back up windows install)

My C drive wont run even though I've fresh installed, I get an error message telling me to reboot and use a proper install, to run windows I have to run though E drive (that's my back up) and before windows starts, or when it just starts, it tells me to run windows 8 on either volume 1 or volume 3 (Volume 1 is my C drive and volume 3 is my E drive back up) why has this happened and how can I stop it from happening again

this happened when I tried to install windows 8.1

any help and advice will be appreciated

thanks! Jack

Solution
No the bios is displaying the message, to restart and select the correct boot device.
Meaning that after you installed windows on the C: drive.
It is not at the top of the boot order list in your bios settings.
The bios will give you that message if you point it at a HD with no boot able OS partition.
Saying in effect you have the wrong drive selected in the boot priority list of the bios.
It will say please reboot and select proper boot device if so.
If the first device is not boot able it halts with that error.

In other words you have one of the other Hard drives selected as a boot device before the C: Drive.
It will be looking at D: or E: for a boot able windows partition.

Simply go into your bios and make sure in the boot...

Simply go into your bios and make sure in the boot section that the C: drive is set to number one in the boot priority.
Save the settings in the bios before you exit it.
And all should work on the next boot of your system loading windows without an error of wrong or no boot able os partition found.
Most likely if you used a DVD install of windows your CD drive is set at no 1. in the boot order in the bios.
In any case set the C: drive to number 1 in the boot list of the bios.
