Good morning all! I'm going to be getting Comcast cable (xfinity) internet when I move to my new place next week. I didn't want to spend the money to rent their stuff so I will be buying my own. I was hoping to just get a combo router modem. budget would be around the 120$ it would have cost me to rent for the year.

Needs to have 4 Ethernet ports and handle 50mbps (I doubt anything cant handle 50 anymore...)

I don't think ihave any devices so AC is not needed. N should be fine

I was looking at either an arris -

or a netgear :

Also though, should I be looking into a separate modem and router? and get a router with antennas? my apt is on the smaller side, but id still like to get a full signal throughout the appt.

If anyone has any other modem/router combo's or invidiual components for under 120$ ish, the advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am in the same situation as you and just bought my modem and router to go with my Comcast internet service. From my experience, I had a modem/router all in one and it stopped working last year. It was very hard to figure out what is wrong with it so I had to just buy a whole new system. If you have a modem with built in router, it's hard to diagnose what the problem is and if something fails, you would have to buy a whole new system. Whereas if you buy it separately and one of your systems die, you don't have to replace both, you replace just the modem or router (whichever is failing). I felt that it was a bit easier to setup as well and my internet is a bit more stable than it used to be. That is just my personal preference.

As far as the ones you've mentioned, I have the SB6121 and it works great, plus the setup was easy! For the router, both are good options considering they are dual band because running both 5GHz and 2.4GHz connections will be better considering there are a lot of people in apartments that use 2.4GHz connection. I just moved to an apartment and I have a modem and router but reaching my 25Mbps speed that I am paying for is practically impossible with how many networks are around me. That is why I am about to purchase a dual band router so I can run a 5GHz connection on top of my 2.4GHz, and all of my devices that support 5GHz will be connected to that and the others would be connected to the 2.4GHz connection. And TL-WDR3600 seems like a very good option also.

ok great thank you! Im going to be in an apt building so im assuming the same will be true for me. Im going to run Ethernet to my desktop, xbox, and smart tv anyway (smart tv for fun, because the xbox is gonna be for streaming anyway lol). but I mainly wanted the strong wifi for my phone, roommates laptop, and when I have guests over

I'll get the wdr3600. it seems to get great reviews and have a very solid connection
