I have 8gb of RAM, computer properties also shows that i have 8gb of RAM but when playing a game like gta v or advanced warfare, the available video memory shown is only 4gb in the video options menu. What could be causing this? How do i utilize the full memory? Please help me out.

Have you bought 8GB of the exact same RAM? Then have you correctly installed the 8GB of RAM? If you had 2 4GB sticks maybe one 4GB stick is not correctly installed. Next please go to Windows Task Manager, to open Task Manager click Ctrl, Alt and Delete at the same time then click Start Task Manager in Windows 7. Once Task Manager is open please go to the Performance tab and see if it shows 8GB of RAM there. Also go to Windows Control Panel, System and see if 8GB of RAM is listed in there.

Please screenshot the Control Panel window and the Task Manager window and post the images as a reply to this post.

Thanks

This is not the issue. He is just misunderstanding the difference between video memory and system memory. Nothing is actually wrong.

Task manager is showing "total" memory at 8155 no units are written. When i right click on computer and go to "properties" it shows 8 GB of ram in instaled.
In the game settings GPU memory is shown or RAM memory is shown, because if its gpu memory then 4gb is correct as i have a gtx 970.

Oh I see, I thought he was talking about missing some standard RAM not Video RAM. Thanks for pointing that out and solving the problem, silly me.

It is showing GPU memory, not system RAM. You have no issue.

I agree, you got confused and thought that the RAM on the GPU was the system RAM. You have 8GB of system RAM plugged into your motherboard and you have 4GB of video RAM on your GPU. Next time check what it says.
