Hey guys, I just wanted to ask if which one will be better overall as a CPU? The i3-4160 or the G3258 with Hyper 212 EVO? I have read it all, I know that the i3 in any model is better than a G3258 in all aspects, even if overclocked. But the G3258/fan combo is $20 cheaper than the cheapest i3 and if you're planning to upgrade to an i5/i7 in the future anyway, than that performance on the i3 right now isn't as important. I'm planning to build a $500 PC that can run all games at 900p on 45 FPS and above and do some light video editing (slide shows, compilations, etc.) and school work.

The best build that I have come up with so far is a Athlon X4 860K build with a GTX 960, but I know that the X4 isn't even as strong as an i3 and is the best CPU out right now for that socket. This means no upgradability. I want to fit a GPU in the tier of the 960 in my budget and I just can't fit an i3 in my budget. So then I thought of the G3258, overclocked of course, but is a dual core going to last me for a year or 2 in terms of gaming at least? I'll probably upgrade to the cheapest i5 I can find or i7 if possible, but the whole upgradability thing for CPUs right now are really obsolete because of the new Intel CPUs coming out next year, which means the end of the 1150 socket. Will retailers still sell 1150 socket CPUs or will they just stop selling them? Also, the games I'm mostly going to play are DOTA 2, NBA 2k (latest version) and some free to play games, which is why I really want that beefy GPU in there.
