i3 4160 + gtx 960 or fx 6300 + r9 280x?

I would opt for the FX 6300 + R9 280x. For editing (I presume video-editing) its cores will make it perform better at this. For gaming The R9 280x performs better, even with a less performing CPU it will usually perform better.

i dont ...!!! think so...!! i3 4160 will be better than fx 6300...!!! more cores ..??? i agree that the cores in fx 6300 are more than i3 but those are weak ...!! compared to i3 ..!!! even tho it has more cores i3 4160 will beat fx 6300 ..!!! and the nicest choice will be i3 4160 + R9 280x and one more thing GTX 960 outperforms R9 280x in 1080p while R9 280x outperforms GTX 960 in more resolution .!! and that will be nicest for vedio editing , gaming in more than 1080p and ofcourse browsing and other stuff.!!!

The 280x outperforms it in benchmarks, for most games.

The CPU is better for gaming (i3), however. But if you were to get a 6300, you could buy a cooler and overclock it at any time.

For gaming you will want the better GPU, since the R9 280x will outperform the GTX 960 any day in any benchmark. An i3 behind the GTX 960 will not make it perform as good as the R9 280x with an FX 6300.

seriously? i3 is better? maybe in single core games(old gen) but now u need as many cores as u can get. not to mention about dx12

not even. if i had the money i would have pixked the i7.intel is better than amd. which next gen game is using 2 cores?? if u wang to play skyrim then yes i3 is the way to go. but if u want gta witcher etc u need more cores and dont forget about the oc

it is r9 280. u don't need anything more than an aftermarket cooler for oc and no the money difference is huge when it comes to i5 which obviously is better

as u said 4 cores. hyperthreading isn't as good as having 4 physical cores. so u think its better to play witcher 3 or gta v (while streaming/recording if u wish) better on the i3?

as stock yes but you can oc the hell out of 6300 and with dx12 will perform even better

Doesn't look to be a lot in it between the two and the fx-6300 wins when combined with an R9-280x at higher settings based on this test. I would say though if you do go the i3 route you've got the option of dropping an i5/i7 in down the line which are better CPU's than anything AMD can currently offer.
