Dear community of Tom's Hardware.

I am fairly new in the GPU world and I am trying to build a low-mid range workstation.

I would like to improve the overall performance of 3Ds Max viewport. At the moment I have a GTX 780 and I am planning to buy a new gpu.

Would I be able to combine (non SLI) a Gtx780 with a Gtx980 in my computer, use them at the same time and see any improvement on viewport performance? Or Shall I buy a second GTx 780 and use SLI?

Note: I am using only 1 monitor.

Thanks you for your time.

As far as I know, you cannot use them separately. If so, it is news to me. With that said, if you want more performance and need a second GPU get another GTX780 for SLI.

Note: SLI requires two (2) IDENTICAL CARDS. Same clock speeds, same memory, etc. So make sure all the specs of your current GTX780 match your new one.
