Upgrade now, or is there too much new tech just around the corner?

I'm looking to upgrade soon, but not out of necessity. A new motherboard, video card and CPU is where I'm looking to make some changes. I'm hearing about 5th, and even 6th gen CPUs on the way for example, although I can only speculate on how much a 6th gen would cost out of the gate (any rough estimates on price there is welcome btw.) I've been only researching potential motherboards and CPUs at the moment, but I've been pretty set on going with a GTX 980ti for video. Is that a good call? The Titan is wayyyyyy out of my price range, and I understand the ti performs almost as well. Does Nvidia have anything new just around the corner that will drive prices down, or is that a ways off?

Any feedback is appreciated.

As far as Intel CPUs go, Broadwell and Skylake will be the two next generations of processors. Broadwell is mainly going to offer increased power efficiency over Haswell, which isn't particularly important. Skylake should offer a better CPU than we've ever seen, but it isn't due to be released until late this year.

AMD have the Zen APU line coming out, but they only offer better integrated graphics and higher single core performance than the current Kaveri chips. There isn't much point aiming for Zen right now, as it will be a long time until it is released.

Nvidia have no new enthusiast grade graphics cards to be released, but AMD have the new R9 300 series just around the corner. The top models include HBM memory and improved GPU...
