Im looking for a router and modem that can handle me streaming and playing multiplayer games while having other devices connected to the same router. currently im running a modem/router from Motorola and its not getting the job done.

Solution
2m up will likely not cut it when you are streaming. Most multiplayer games want at least 500k and some use more. There will be short bursts higher. Normally this is not a huge issue because most other applications like web surfing send very little data up. Streaming is one of the few exceptions. People who stream 1080p at 60 frames are feeding more than 4-5m constantly. Even cutting it to 720 will push you close to 2m depending on which options you choose.

Not much you can really do. QoS will do you little good because both applications are considered critical to not lose any data and both will likely not fit. So if you have a mix of other things running it gets even worse. I would see if you can get a higher upload...

Your ISP should have a support page which lists the modems which are approved for your particular tier of service. Pick one of the approved modems. You are then free to choose any router.

Wireless throughput is a tricky thing. It is dependent on the router and the client hardware. If you buy the newest AC2500 router but connect it to a heavily used wireless G device, you will slow down your entire wireless network. If you live in a condo/apartment when there are many competing wireless signals your throughput will be poor. Move devices to the 5Ghz band if possible.

is it possible to get another router that i can stream off of and still use the modem/router for other devices?

You could. You would either cascade the routers or setup the second as an access point only. You would use a different SSID for each. I don't know if that would improve your situation or not. What WAN speed do you pay for? It is possible that the combo unit you have just isn't up to the WAN bandwidth you pay for.

Your modem should be OK. If you are going to use a standalone router you will want to read this article http://www.justanswer.com/computer-networking/4wl6x-disable-router-motorola-surfboard-sbg901.html about how to disable the built-in router. I would disable the wireless first, then disable the entire router.

Connect a new upgraded router to the ethernet port and you should be good to go. You may need to call TWC and tell them you had to replace your router and they need to reset you line so that the new MAC address will be recognized.

so by disabling the router in it and getting an upgraded router it would help with lowering my ping on multiplayer games while streaming with having devices connected to it?

Not necessarily. There is only so much TIME. Both of those activities are real time activites. If a device is streaming wirelessly and you are trying to play an online game wirelessly then the two things are going to collide. If you choose to be connected wired, then tweaking QOS settings to bias your gaming might benefit you. There is no magic hardware for consistent low wireless ping times and simultaneous glitch free HD video streaming...
