I am looking into buying a new card. I was originally going to go with the GTX 960, but I am seeing 970s for around $300 after rebates now, so I am considering that option instead. My buddy has an EVGA GTX 970, and his coil whine is fairly noticeable when gaming and is very annoying. I have sensitive ears and a noise like that just bothers me, I cannot justify paying $300 for something that makes that noise.
I know these issues were rampant when the cards were first released (my buddy got his late December last year), but I am wondering, has this issue been fixed? Are there certain brands/models that lack coil whine? Any recommendations?
