As you know from the title, I'm wondering if a 600 watt power supply, from Corsair Specificly, the 600m (modular) being it having bronze cerified from the duo above. Would I be able to overclock with this power supply, and would it be safe too?

Solution

GTX 970 only require a quality 500W PSU that can deliver 28Amps on its +12V rail. The Corsair CX600 will do the job fine, no doubt about it. But it has cheap capacitors, so its longevity is questionable. If you already own it, use it. Else, consider this quality PSU instead:

Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($61.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $61.98...
Corsair PSUs are pretty bad if you overclock. They have weak capacitors and bad rails due to the weak capacitors. For general use they are okay but if you overclock or put them under stress they fail or make other parts fail. The number one thing to look at when getting a PSU is the brand / model over wattage.

Tier List of PSU's:

Only use 1 or 2 if you overclock as it can damage other parts.

This quality 620W Antec PSU can deliver 48Amps on its +12V rail, which is plenty to power your entire rig along with this card and overclocked i7.

Cheers!

They tell the truth. I myself had the Corsair CX750M. My system when overclocked only consumes 400 watts when stressing both CPU and GPU. Had the computer for a whole 2 months, and had done some overclocking on both CPU and GPU. PSU killed my motherboard and CPU when it died.

Got a replacement PSU, but refuse to use it because my system is overclocked.

**High-end Corsair PSUs are great. Its the low end cheap ones (CX/CXM, VS) you really want to avoid when overclocking.

Hey, I know this is late, but could you let me know what GPU and CPU you were overclocking? I have a Corsair cx600 and I want to overclock a grtx 970, but I don't know if I should. An overclocked 970 still runs at the same wattage as a stock 390.
