I have just upgraded from a GTX660 to a GTX970 a week ago. After few hours into The Witcher 3 my screens went black for a moment. My secondary screen immediately turned on again, with no visible differences from before. However, my primary screen which I was playing on did not turn back on. (Screen is obviously on but completely black) I could still hear the game audio and interact with it, but I couldn't make the screen come back on. Alt-Tabbing or ctrl-shift-esc/ctrl-alt-delete did nothing on this screen but obviously worked judging from my secondary screen. The screen was just black. This has now happened several times a day ever since.

I can confirm that this happens weather I have the card overclocked or not (I started overclocking after this happened a few times) and that my GPU temperatures are completely fine, never higher than 76°C (when overclocked, don't know normal temp) in The Witcher 3, and around 60°C in Magicka 2. (I haven't played much else, and this happens in both games)

Basically, what I would like to find out is if there are compatibility problems or software problems, as I could send the card back and request a new one if there is something wrong with the card itself.

Here are my specs:

Motherboard: ASUS Sabertooth P67
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K
Graphics Card: MSI GTX 970 4GD5T OC
RAM: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance
Power supply: Corsair TX650

I can also mention that I have updated my BIOS to the latest version without any effect.

This is my first ever post here, so please ask if I have forgotten some information. I have looked at other posts and tried to include the info they have.

I am having the same problem. About 2 months ago I finished a build that has an MSI GTX 970 4G and when I play the Witcher 3 this happens, usually around once per 1.5 hours of playtime. I haven't overclocked it and even dropped power to 98%. I also had it happen in Rome II last night, although this time the mouse stayed visible and I could interact with the screen, but I couldn't get anything else on the screen to come back. I've also updated to the most recent drivers (353.30) and run benchmark tests on Heaven Benchmark 4.0 with no problems.

I'm assuming it's a software issue, but I haven't found anyone with an MSI that has fixed the problem.

My specs are:

Asus Maximus VII Hero Z97
Intel Core i7-4790k
MSI GTX 970 4G
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)
Noctua NH-D14
Seasonic X-850
