i3 or athlon 860k/870k

Hey guys, i am using one fm2+ low bugdet apu.I would like to know if i should update my cpu to an athlon or the whole mobo/cpu combo to an i3 when i pair it with a gtx 960.I dont do any rendering and stuff.

I'd say the i3. The 4160 runs just under $110 and will give you a motherboard with someplace to upgrade, such as an i5 or i7 later on. (if planning ahead for an upgrade it might be worth selecting a z series for the i3 if you have any plans to oc a k series i5/i7 in the future).

On games like company of heroes 2, hitman absolution and others, paired with a gtx 980 at just 1366x768, the i3 still outperformed an fx 8320 oc'd to 4.5ghz.

In terms of perfomance only which would be better (gta v etc.) ? As i said i arleady have fm2+ mobo and im thinking of waiting for skylake, by updating to an athlon

Then yes stay with FM2+ and get a 860K and go Skylake later. I'm going to wait off the initial launch of Skylake until revised motherboards appears.
