Disk Image transfer query...

This is a, "how to", query. I decided to upgrade my notebook hard drive from the existing 500 GB to a freshly purchased 1 TB drive (yes, it's a 2.5 inch and SATA III both, same as the existing one). I'm sure there's a tried and true method of transferring the disk image from my existing hard drive onto my new one. I just don't know exactly what it is. It's somewhat important that I be able to do a disk image transfer, as re-installing from scratch would entail the process of contacting and explaining to software companies of much software that I've purchased from a number of them, why they should go out of their way yet another time on my behalf, and instruct their automated software activation systems that I'm not someone trying to install on an unauthorized additional computer... but in fact only the very computer I originally purchased the license for. (I've had to go through this twice after I did a clean install of Windows 7 -from Windows Vista- on two of my computers, at a date in time way too late in the game to be able to do a simple upgrade ...i.e. after Microsoft expired the option). Therefore if anyone can give me any information, resource links, helpful direction and/or advice, as to how-to do a disk image transfer, I'd much appreciate it.

Solution
I don't see what the problem is.

Whatever disk-imaging software you used to create the HDD image, boot your laptop from the boot CD you created with the disk-imaging software, then write the image to the new HDD.

Followup: I used Disk@ Image in Trial mode and it worked without a hitch. I'm so pleased with the Trial version I've decided to buy it, just in case I should want to use it again in the future. Hope this software will still be useable after future OS upgrades (e.g. Windows 10??). Just the same, thanks for suggesting this quality imaging program.
