Hi guys,

I wanted to run a backup today, so I turned on my external hard drive (WD Green - 1TB).
Usually I hear a whirling up noise and some faint chatter as it connects via e-sata to my desktop computer.
If I put my ear to the side of the drive enclosure, I hear a very faint sound. I also don't see the usual green light on the front of the enclosure.

I turned it off, reconnected it's power supply and e-sata cable. Then turned it on again via it's on/off button.

The drive popped up in windows explorer. I'm currently running chkdsk /r on it to see what happens.

-Could the enclosure be at fault, or the drive itself?

Hi there Marc999,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(

Though, it is possible that the enclosure/cables could not provide enough power as well.
As the drive is working fine now, I would advise you to back up the data stored on it until you sort this out.
After that you can test it with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool. In case the HDD passes the tests, then most probably there is something wrong with the enclosure/cable.
It may be a good idea to try connecting it with a different cables, in case you have spare ones.

Let me know how this goes,
