So I built a new computer, the motherboard is an ASUS A97 LE R2.0, also installed a new GPU and CPU. But I kept the old HDD, as I don't have any info on the OS and didn't think I'd be able to reinstall it.

So now when I boot, it says windows can't start normally. If I tell it to start normally, it takes me to the same screen. If I start it in repair mode, that doesn't work either. There doesn't seem to be an option for Safe Mode. It just goes to a screen which tries to find solutions about why windows isn't starting.

If I put the support disc that comes with it in and tell it to boot that, it gives me two options on a DOS screen:

1. AHCI/RAID win xp driver
2. FreeDOS command prompt

I assume what I need to do is install drivers for the new devices, but how would I do that? Is the first option on the CD the right thing to pick?

Thanks much for your time.

It's a retail license for sure. So that's not what's preventing it from working.
