Hello There,
I picked up this old Apple:
http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords=QT2220AHMAY
I got it for 30.00 with just the keyboard,.I get it home ,..plug it in and it powers up fine but I cannot get past the boot screen,..just a grey screen and a apple icon and a spinning circle underneath,..but it just sits there and spins and spins,..like for a half hour so far,..
I am able to get into the command prompt and I ran a disk check command and it all checked out fine without no modification,..but when I reboot,..just a spinning wheel,..
I have no recovery disks and no other Apple system at home,so that option is out,..anyone have any suggestions what I can do next,..note here to,.the CD writer platform has only came out once under countless reboots,..not sure if this is a problem,..it also sounds like the HD is running fine,..I know it's a shot in the dark but maybe someone out there can help,..

Thanks for your time !!

Computer works it sounds like, and if the hard drive works, you will just need to get an OS on there. That means buying a new old stock OSX 10.x (And not one of the recent ones, the G4 and G5 Macs have specific versions for them)

There is a keyboard combination that I don't recall at the moment (Command-Alt-R or something on boot up) that will open the drive tray.

I found an old dual G5 workstation at a re-use store with no ram or harddrive, but I didn't want to spend the money on the OS to test it (and I couldn't find an appropriate version ISO online to even try it out). So I parted it out and kept the case.

Try contacting Apple (with the full model and serial number) and explain you'd like to get it running, they do *sometimes* supply old install disks (if they have them), the alternative is eBay or sometimes Amazon (but that route can be expensive).

Try starting in Safe Mode: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT203176 Also you could try resetting the PRAM: http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/15/reset-pram-mac/

If none of these, and the links in those articles, help then you are going to need install disks. With that Mac I wouldn't go for anything newer than 10.4. (With that processor and RAM 10.5 would be a dog - and you can't run anything newer.) With a little patience you can pick it up on eBay fairly cheap. Make sure you either get the retail version or disks for your specific model. Disks for (for example) a Mac Mini or MacBook almost certainly won't work with your Mac.

Alternatively, you could try something a little different and put Linux on it. Make sure you get a PPC version of whatever distro you choose (e.g. Ubuntu - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCDownloads ) .

I have a bid for a 10.2 operating disks (2),..it's at 1.99 with free shipping so I may get those dirt cheap,..
I did take the case apart once briefly just to get the dust out,..The caps looked good,..I am actually really leaning towards replacing the battery,..It's 12 years old,..I'm going to try the disks first, and then see what happens after that,.
Just try to get it up and running,..everything seems to work fine,..just can't get the OPS to boot up,..
Thanks for your help,..I'll do a update in about a week from now after I try the OP install or repair,..

and thank you for posting the link !!
hard to believe this system sold for 1200.00 twelve years ago,..

just a update,..
I was able to get a my hands on a 2002 OEM Mac OS X 9.2.2 CD set,..three restores,.two installs and one Hardware test disk,..
I ran the Hardware disk and a prompt came up saying that the system doesn't support that function,...ummm,..
the CD/DVD rom was making a ungodly bad noise so I decided to replace it with one I had laying around,.that went well and I cleaned out the dust
while I had the case apart,....
I restarted it and ran the hardware test again and got the same prompt,..so I'm thinking that the DVD/CD rom replacement went well,.
I then threw in the restore disk and I am just getting the spinning icon,..been running for about 15 minutes now,..nothing happening,.
which is strange considering the hardware disk came up after only a minute,..
any ideas what to do next?????

Instant update,..I rebooted it and the install disk just came up,..I'm doing a erase and install,..it only had 5 gigs of files on the HD,.Wish me luck,..my total cost is only 39.00 so far !!
