Hello,

First off please take w/e I say with a grain of salt I'm only asking because I would like to know to help me understand better. I have a 3570K and a Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 that I run at stock settings. I tryed overclocking once got everything stable at 4.2 but didn't really see much of an improvement when gaming. If anything my game kinda felt more jittery and sometimes unresponsive.
Out of frustration I went on Youtube looking for videos of what could be casuing the issue but instead found myself watching videos like "Does overclocking help gaming" and to my surprise I would say about 75% had the same FPS overclocked as they did at stock settings. one guy had the same exact setup as me down to the GPU and he OC'ed to 4.8Ghz and the FPS was maybe 1 frame higher than at stock settings. So my question is why do so many people swear upon overclocking? Like i said im not saying it doesn't help but maybe it doesn't impact your FPS as much as let say your CPU Usage. As a gamer how does overclocking benefit me?

And before anyone asks "Well if you don't want to overclock why get a 3570K?" my answer is because it is something i am interested in if it will benefit me and is worth it.

Have a look here for CPU bound games.
These are where overclocking helps.
In games that are GPU bound overclocking the CPU has little to no effect unless you are running a slow (below 3.0ghz) dual/quad core.
I overclock everything and have for the last 19 years. I consider it free performance when it is needed.

It depends on the games you were playing. If you overclocked your CPU and are playing GPU based games, you will not see much of a performance boost, but if you find yourself playing CPU intensive games, or rendering, you will notice a difference. If you are looking to get a overclocking boost in GPU intensive games, you can always overclock your GPU if you have good cooling.

I am interested in learning how to overclock and I get the basic gist of it. I get a little confused with certain things, I found a decent guide and it seems like the guy knows what he is talking about. When I have some extra time I'm gonna give it a shot . Please if you know any useful guides that can help someone like myself who is a complete noob feel free to link them. My goal if I do overclock is to get a 4.4-4.5 Ghz for everyday use.

Above is the link to the guide im following if anyone has a second to give it a quick look it would be much appreciated. I really want to follow along with someone who knows what they are doing would make me feel a little more comfortable with it.

@eldy. Just curious how is the GTX980Ti I plan on upgrading I am just waiting for E3 to see what AMD has to offer.
