Hi all. I'm sure this ask been asked on here plenty of times, but I wanted to make my own thread so I could receive help that is more directly related to my situation.

I went over to MicroCenter today and picked up a brand new 120GB Samsung 850 EVO to use as a boot drive alongside my 1TB WD HDD. For around a year, I used my HDD for everything. So, I unplugged the HDD and went through the full Windows 8.1 installation setup on my SSD. After, I shut down, plugged in my HDD, went into the BIOS and configured the boot priority. However, I am now stuck. I don't know what to do. In "Disk Management", I see both drives, but I am not sure how to properly configure them. Will I lose all data from my original hard drive? Also, does it matter which drive is "(C:)" and "(D:)"? Currently, (C:) is my SSD, (E:) is my HDD, and then there is "System Reserved" and "System Reserved (D:). Each show up as a 350MB NFTS partition on each respective drive.

*Those smiley faces are colons, I'm not sure how to turn off emoticons!

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Solution
Drivers - yes, reinstall
Applications - reinstall
Files - poke around in the old drive until you find all of them. Copy to somewhere outside the existing Windows install.
Then get rid of that Windows install
Preferably, copy those files to a whole other drive, then wipe that entire HDD.

Set the boot priority so that the SSD is above your HDD on the boot order.

I have never seen myself or anyone else lose data by simply setting the boot order.

The drive letter should not matter, windows will always default the drive it booted from to C, after that you can reassign any other drive at your leisure. And since your SSD and HDD are both setup to be non-dual boot system, that should not be an issue.

So, Disk 0 is your old HDD, Disk 1 is the new SSD>
No prob. All is as it should be.

To really test...power off, disconnect the HDD, reboot. If it reboots OK, OK.

The "D" drive is the old System Reserved (boot info). It needs to go away.
What to do with the HDD? Ideally, you copy off any personal data you want, and then wipe out both partitions. Format, and use the drive for whatever you need.

Okay. Already tested SSD on its own, and everything booted fine. Also, all I really want back are my applications and files within those applications (e.g. Microsoft Excel & excel files). I know I need to reinstall applications, but is it possible to recover those files? How do I do so? Lastly, do I need to reinstall drivers for hardware, or is that all okay? Antivirus?

Thanks for being so helpful!
