How can I get the HDD quiet?

The case is a Antec ESK3000B-R-U3 and the hard drive is a Western Digital WD3200AAJS-65B4A.

I have tried silicone washers. Don't work at all.

The vibrations from the hard drive go to the case panels which resonate it and make a very annoying humming sound.

What would help? I have looked at different cases (Fractal Design), but I would prefer a case with build-in SD card reader. And maybe a newer HDD would work?

I have noticed that this case doesn't have anything to stop the vibrations from spreading throughout the system. It also seems to have disappeared from Antec's site.

1) You can create your own solutions, such as use a larger 5.25" bay or bottom of case and sit drive on foam or other material with minimal vibration.

2) A new drive could make a big difference, such as a 1TB or larger 5400RPM unit. You have an older 320GB 7200RPM drive.

3) Lots of cases work fine.

Well.... I dont know how much crazy you are with sound noise. But, i bought a wd green hdd, wich is known for been quiet, and i still had the same issues you described, so what i did was, remove all the hard drive cages, placed a lot of foam and stick the hdd inside of it. Not the best looking solution. But i has worked for me, i still can hear it though, but i have to be very close to the case.

I have tried everything i read on forums and pages, but nothing worked for me. just my very practical and good looking foam.

Those things only help if there are no screws involved, then the case itself can acoustically resonate as well. All these silencing solutions... are hit&miss... I tried this in the 2000's and they are never as quiet as I would like... so I've gone fully passive cooled, with NAS HDD (tucked in a closet) solution... the only way to go for total silence... and when budget is not a major concern.
