i have a asus vq248e monitor what gpu would be good at 144hz ?

Both will be sufficient but get the 980ti if you want to future proof your system, OR you could wait for the 390x, which will retail for just 390$, or wait for it so that nVidia lowers the price of 980ti at least if you want the 980ti only.

980 is more than enough for gaming right now. Unless you absolutely must have the best of the best, get a 980 for $500 and save over $150. I can assure you that a 980 will not dissapoint.

definately. The gtx 980 is one of the top gpu's right now and a great option. If you want to take full advantage of the 144hz monitor, you might consider the 980 ti becuase it will most likely reach that fps on most titles. But it is up to you depending on how much you want to spend and what games you plan to play.

Gigabyte has shown great performance with their gtx 900 series cards and have the cheapest 980 right now.

I personally would choose either GTX 970 or GTX 980 ti. that's it. Sure, GTX 980 would be perfect however it's overpriced. And for only $150 more (correct me if I'm wrong) you can get a GTX 980ti that's way faster.

I agree with what people have to say. Price: performance ratio is always important. 980 has the lowest. 970 is best for gaming on a 60hz monitor. 980ti is the way to go if you want to be future proof specially because you will be gaming at 144 hz.
