crossfire r9 with 7950 or get a 970 ,will my cpu bottleneck ?

i have old HD7950 (1100 core 1350 mem) card running on my pc right now im planning to upgrade my graphics card but i have a question can i crossfire a 7950 with a R9 280X or only R9 280 ? is it worth it ? or it'll be better just get a 970 ,and will my cpu bottleneck if i add 280 or 280x to it and run it with 7950

According to http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Crossfire-Chart.aspx - you can't crossfire them.

Your i7 won't bottleneck anything really.

i dont really think a 970 would be a noticeable upgrade from your 7950. if you could find another 7950 then go for xfire.

as for your CPU, no bottlenecks there

the 7950 CF would be faster, but troublesome.

Some games don't ever like CF, and most games don't function until patches.

IMO OP go for the 970, especially if you are sticking to 1080p.

I used to have a 7950 as well, I went for a 290x though because I jumped up to 1440p.

personally a significant upgrade for me is at least 3 tiers and up. but depends on OP if he would want that, with AMD releasing new cards soon, i think it's best to wait what they offer and then decide at that point in time.

but still i stick to my opinion that it's not that big of an upgrade since his 7950 can still handle recently released games though not on very high-ultra settings
