Trying to turn on my PC after installing a new PSU, but nothing turns on.

Recently I had a power supply die on me with a loud pop/spark & ozone smell (from overheating or something, not too sure) which made me replace it (new PSU is same as old PSU). The power supply I had previously and the same one I replaced it with is a Solid Gear 850W PSU.

I uninstalled the old PSU and installed the new one with everything plugged in correctly as far as I know (literally triple checked everything), and now if I press the power button nothing turns on. No fans, lights, or anything. Occassionally (not always, usually every ten tries) when pressing the power button, I'll hear a very quiet low noise coming from my PC as if it's going to start up, but it literally lasts less than a hundredth of a second.

I'm wondering, do I have a faulty PSU (though, Solid Gear claims to have done approval tests on it before shipping it to me via Amazon), or is my motherboard fried (a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 with 8 4gb RAM sticks)? Something very odd I have noticed though is that my PC's speakers (uses USB ports in the back of my PC, which I'm pretty sure is connected to the motherboard?) turn on when plugged in the USB port and when the PSU is connected to power and with everything else plugged in correctly (but still nothing turns on at all).

I'm very concerned, and have been looking all over this site and others for solutions, but nothing so far has worked.. If needed, I can give out all of my PC specs upon request. Thanks in advance.

If it is the motherboard, is there anything I can do to try and fix it or is it all long gone? :/ Like resetting it somehow, or replacing the battery (don't know if that'd do anything good though)? I don't know if this helps or not, but as far as I can tell there aren't any burned or darkened/discolored marks on the motherboard. Also if you think it would be beneficial, I could try and get a PSU tester or whatever they're called. Thanks again.

The PSU doesn't turn on at all as far as I can tell, but power must be going through it if the USB speakers are turning on somehow (but they are on automatically after being plugged in, not by pressing the PC's power button). I don't have any other PSU's to test with, nor would I be able to borrow a friend's PSU but I'll try to get a tester or multimeter thingy to see if it's working correctly.

Take psu out. Get a clip.
Get the atx mb conector and put one end of the clip on the green cable pin and the other end of the clip in any black cable pin. Put power on the psu and turn it on if it has a switch and see if it turns on like the fan and stuff.

Alrighty, I'll do that first thing tomorrow for sure (as it's 5:30 am my time). I'll post my results as soon as I am finished with that clip test. Thanks again!

But did you understand what i told you?
On The atx conector you need to jump the green and any black cable, that will make the psu think that the motherboard is turned on, so if the problem is the mobo the psu should turn on.
If you have any question dont hesitate in asking...

Does a normal paper clip work fine? I will try the test later today.
