So I have this Canon MVX250i camcorder and I need to transfer videos from it's mini dv to pc. I have only one cable which I think is mini usb to usb. It looks like this: http://www.cablesdirect.co.uk/write/937CDL-062.jpg
The mini usb goes into camcorder and usb into pc, but whenever I plug them in, windows 7 (64 bit) doesn't want to recognize it. Am I missing something or what? Do I need some kind of software or different cable? Any help would be appreciated.

Solution
If I am not mistaken the USB connection from camcorder to PC can only be used to retrieve pictures but not video since it is a MiniDV camcorder.

Option 1) Use a firewire cable to connect the camcorder to the PC provided your PC has a firewire port. The firewire port on the camcorder is labeled as DV. If you don't have one and you have an available slot on your motherboard you could add a firewire card. Should you choose this option and you are using Windows 8 or 8.1 then you will need to download the legacy "firewire" driver.

Option 2) Get a video capture device (either an add-in card or USB device) and connect the camcorder to the computer using the Stereo Video Cable and USB capture device. You can find some inexpensive ones...

You can find some inexpensive ones on Amazon, Newegg, and other online retailers and possibly at stores such as Best Buy, Walmart, Target or a local electronics store.
