Hi people of toms hardware today I need help choosing between 2 builds I have put together as I can only buy 1 essentially it's an amd vs intel sort of thing, each build fits perfectly and they are almost exactly the same price so I just ask for you to choose one

AMD build
•fx 4300 quad core 3.8ghz(will be overclocking)
•Msi 970a Sli Krait edition mitherboard with usb 3.1
•gtx 750 ti stormx dual
•Corsair Carbide SPEC-01 Case
•Corsair Cx 600watt psu(bronze certified)
•Hyperx fury 8gb(2x4gb) 1866mhz
•WD 1Tb Caviar blue 3.5inch hard drive 7200rpm

INTEL Build
•Pentium g3258 Dual 3.2ghz(will be overclocking)
•Asus Z97 Anniversary addition motherboard
•Msi gtx 960 Armor 2x
•CIT Neptune gaming case
•Fsp raider series 750watt silver certified psu
•G.skills ripjaw X series 8gb(2x4gb)1866mhz
•Segate barracuda 1tb hard drive 7200rpm

As I already said these builds are both the exact same price it's essentially amd vs intel but You should also take note that

After 3 months of having one of these builds I'll be buying a new part e.g.

With the AMD build I will be upgrading the gtx 750 ti to a gtx 970

And in the INTEL Build I will be changing the pentium g3258 to an i5 4690k

So basically after 3 months the build will be the exact same except for either the processor or graphics will be changed so they will then be either

An fx 4300(overclocked) with a gtx 970
Or
An i5 4690k with gtx 960

So take that information into mind when deciding.thank you for the feedback given

Sounds like you already made your decision. The AMD based system has more cores which means it will run those games out there that require more then 2 cores Yes I own a G3258 Pent... The 750 isn't much of a card either The 960 is on par with a AMD r 280 Yes That's where the 960 stands... But the AMD system has only Got a upgrade path to the fx 9590 Chip which is over priced and A lot of I5 out there will beat it... Clearly the am3+ socket is dead But the 1150 socket for the G3258 is not So If you need to upgrade you can go I5 EVEN I7 with the Intel system But your going to start out with only 2 cores.
BTW I have my G3258 OVERCLOCKED to 4.4 Ghz So yes The intel system would be the best route unless you plan on another pc in a year or so...

Go with the Intel build. The Pentium is a bit better than the FX-4300, and you could upgrade to an i5 4690K anyway (Still way better than a overclocked FX-4300). The motherboard is fine for overclocking the i5, but you should get an aftermarket CPU cooler for overclocking.

I understand that your all picking the Intel build but remember after 3 months the AMD one will have a gtx 970 which will perform better than the gtx 960 we the 4690k won't it?

Also just to take note this is for gaming not video editing or hardcore computing so wouldn't a better gpu be more prominent?and thus I would go with that amd build with the gtx 970?

but both builds have 8gb of ram what are you talking about?also I'll only have the 750 ti for 3 months then I'll he getting a gtx 970 if I go with that build

no there is a large difference between the 960 and 970, so large that they were considering making a 960 ti

If I was him I personally would scrap both ideas and wait till more money is in pocket...both will be very poor at running todays games at even medium! Also the hardware is not future proof, in 6-12 months time your probably want to upgrade a few parts because it quite and I say this politely. Sucks...

Don't buy those parts my friend at all, save...

Intel has strong single core performance, AMD has weaker single core performance, thus the added cores to "compensate", even though it's still pretty much a crapshoot and Intel will outperform AMD in most cases.

The 960 is light years Behind the 970 and 980 Its all about cost and profit its aim at the R 280 and R 285 to gain market share.

The intel build will be better. It may cost a bit more but will be a much more solid platform and gpu's will need upgraded every so often no matter which camp you go with for motherboard/cpu. Games aren't just about slapping an expensive gpu on a cheap cpu, they often rely on a balanced build. A lot of games are cpu intensive as well and the difference between that i5 and the amd fx 4xxx can be 20fps + more on the intel build with the same gpu. Even an i3 will keep pace with or game better in just about every game than the fx 8xxx. I have a feeling the fx 4xxx may bottleneck the gtx 970 at times where the i5 won't. Your choice, just my .02 worth. Much easier/cheaper to upgrade gpu's than to replace motherboards and cpu's which require a new os install when upgrading mobo's.

Skylake? for a 2 to 5 % increase in performance???? Intel has no real competion why give you all of us a cpu that's going to be 10 plus % then what they offer now? Its all about money Plus New board and The new cpu will cost far more then a z97 and a I3 or I5 or even The G3258 costs now ....

but if I do get the i5 it will be with a gtx 960 not a gtx 970 I can only get the 970 with the amd build

From another post....

"I wouldn't call him a fanboy, if anything he was "tip towing". Adding weaker cores typically doesn't "compensate", especially for gaming. Take Battlefield 4(high end gaming benchmark, 1080p Ultra). With a 290X GPU the dual core i3-4130 out performs a FX 6350. Adding more weak cores does work(FX 8350 beats i3-4130), but not by much(6 more cores, lol).

AMD has stopped loosing billions, but they are in rough shape; after a brutal downsizing. What Intel makes(profits) in few months is more than all of AMD is worth(~3 billion). The "Bulldozer" architecture was a disaster, the FX line is a lingering refresh of that failure.

Hopefully their APU's/FM2+ and the next-gen 20nm Radeon GPU chips out of TSCM keep them going! "

1.that intel build can run any game out right now at ultra on 1080p._. So um bullshit?2.nothing is future proof buy for now never the future.3 saving isn't an option
