CPU temps slowly increasing over time.

Hey guys,

So I know this is a noob question but I built my first PC about 7 or 8 months ago. I put an i7 4790k into an Asus Maximus Hero VII with a Noctua NH-U12S CPU cooler. When I first built my PC my CPU would sit around 35 degrees Celsius and under load would go up to 40-45 degrees but after a couple of months it started sitting around 45 degrees at idle and then recently it's started sitting around 55 degrees at idle. I haven't overclocked it at all and everything is working fine, the fan is spinning normally and I know I'm still a ways from high enough heat to hurt or thermal throttle my CPU but my question is, is this normal? Should my temps be creeping like that over time? Have any of you more experienced techies encountered this and is there some action I should take? My system is running fine now I'm just wondering if it will be a problem later. Thanks for your time!

Hello,

Can you inform us which paste you are currently using?

Also please check the heat sink has not lost contact with the chip. It may have come loose. Please remove, re-paste and re-sink the Noctua and keep us informed of the progress.

Thanks

I'm using Fractal Design fans for the case, two 140mm as intake and a single 140mm as exhaust all air flow fans, I'm using the Noctua fan that came with the cooler which is a static pressure fan and I used the thermal paste that came with the Noctua cooler. I guess I should probably take off the CPU cooler and reapply the thermal paste. Thanks guys!

I use CPUID HWmonitor, I opened up my system to make sure the cooler was still making contact with the CPU, it seems to be fine. I really appreciate all of the quick responses. This is a very helpful community.
