okay so i am having a nightmare with my hp sleekbook.

The hard drive failed - bought an identical one, but cannot get through the install because it wont show up.

I have tried diskpart on command prompt but no fixed discs to list, i have also checked another hard drive which also doesnt show up, i have checked on bios and the drive shows up ive also done a hard drive quick check and no problems, really stuck on how to get past this

Solution
Well, you'd need to find the exact sleekbook model on your manufacturer's website and check the available drivers and software for it. If your model's motherboard supports UEFI, then you should re-install the UEFI BIOS driver. Refer to your laptop's manual for more information on that. Make sure you've got the latest chipset and SATA drivers.

Good luck! :)

Welcome to the community, sandro881!

I think you should find another SATA cable to connect the drive to the motherboard with. I suspect that this one might be faulty and that's why it's causing you such headaches with the recognition of the storage drives. However, I'd still test the drive itself on another computer, just in case, and make sure that it's not the source of the issue. I'd also run an extensive test on it that will help you determine what is the SMART status of the HDD. You should check the hard drive manufacturer's website for such diagnostic tools.

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting! :)

Hi, Thanks for the reply!
unfortunately i do not think the laptop has another sata connection, and ive tested the drive on a different laptop as well as testing a different drive in this laptop :(

So the drive is unable to get detected on the other computer as well, is that correct?
I think that if it's your second almost-immediately failed drive, you should troubleshoot the PSU as well. However, I strongly recommend taking the laptop to a professional computer repair service and let the tech guys handle the full diagnostics on the notebook.
Does the drive spin up or show any signs of life, though?

No so the drive is fine it spins up and shows up in the bios. It also seems fine when connected to another laptop, it just doesnt show up during the windows install or when trying diskpart on command prompt.

I have also tried using a different hard drive in this laptop, but that still doesnt show up when trying to install windows, which leads me to think it is something wrong with the laptop

Well, it seems like the problem lies in one of the cables connected to the HDD. My guess is there is a faulty connector there. However, you should consult with the laptop manufacturer or the manual to tell you where and how you can find such a SATA connector. I think this is causing you the headaches when trying to install Windows. Either way, you should check Google and online retailers, to research for a replacement for your laptop model.
Hopefully this will fix the issue. Otherwise, we might be looking at a more severe motherboard issue.

Good luck! Keep me posted! :)

Hi,
I went to a repair shop and they told me i needed a driver so that it would recognise the hd, and said they could install windows for £50, which i dont need as i know how, i just need the drivers which they said they could give me for £20 but i thought i would just be able to get them online and i can see all the drivers on the HP site, but dont know which one to download, is it bios or UEFI support?
