Hello.I'm from India therefore everything is more expensive than the US.I'm building a good gaming PC which can max out(or almost) games.I'm at a really tight budget.I've decided to go with the GTX 970.Now I'm tied up between choosing FX 8320 which costs Rs.11000/$172 or the Core i5 4440 which costs Rs.13000/$200.Many people are recommending Intel over AMD.So I want to know if the extra bucks is worth it for getting the Intel?

Also I want to know which is better out of the box because for overclocking the FX 8320, I will haave to invest in a better PSU and cooler.

The i5 4440 is somewhat equivalent to my i5 3550, it'll be fine at stock clock. I had an 8320 and 8320E, they pretty much have to be overclocked or you'd run into stutter or spike issues.

Intel i5 4440 for great gaming experience. Online prices in India are a bit high, so try to get it from local retailer at electronic market.

Local retail market price for i5 4440 is Rs. 12600

Only Snapdeal sells for lesser price Rs. 12595, which is pretty good. Get it here - http://www.snapdeal.com/product/intel-i54440-processor-31-ghz/115595088

Get a PC component on par or less than local market price from online in India is rare. So grab it!

Update:

Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H Rs. 6650 [Indian local market price]

You won't get a good price online for the above said board. You can check it for yourself.

http://www.snapdeal.com/product/gigabyte-gah97md3h-motherboard/618710007278

So its better to get it from local market. Also don't let people to brainwash you to get FX 8320. Because in India its not like US where the FX8320 + MB will be substantially lower than i5 4440 + MB,

In India, actually FX 8320 + CPU Cooler + decent motherboard costs even more than i5 4440 + decent motherboard.

i5 4440 Rs. 12600 + Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H Rs. 6650 = Rs. 19250 [Great gaming experience for less price]
FX 8320 Rs. 11300 + Cooler Master Hyper EVO 212X CPU Cooler Rs. 3000 + ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Rs. 6900 = Rs. 21200 [Ridiculously high price for inferior performance]

Note that the default CPU cooler that comes with Intel non-K process i5 4440 will do a fine job. So no need to buy a third party CPU cooler like FX 8320.

This is India brother. Here the scenario is different. So wisely get the i5 + MB for better gaming experience that too for lesser price.

Go for Gigabyte Motherboard. Why? Because they make stable, durable and performance oriented products and also have the lowest RMA percentage. See the images below:

No amount of overclocking can get the fx8320 to match the i5 stronger single core performance and overall performance in gaming. And to overclock the fx you will need a decent aftermarket cpu cooler and a good mobo, i.e. spending more money.

For the i5, any budget lga 1150 mobo will do (b85,h81, h97). I recommend the asus b85m-g, as I like asus build quality, and for its price you can't go wrong. Asrock, gigabyte and msi also make decent boards. And since the i5 has a locked multiplier (can't be overclocked), the stock cooler that comes inside the box will be sufficient as the cpu cooler.

ooooh nice motherboard, and it has a heatsink on the VRM!

PS- Shuraim26, have you looked at shops from Singapore or Hong Kong?

The i5 is a stronger cpu, at current point you would need to overclock a 8320 to a fairytale land 7ghz to match the performance. The architecture in the i5 is just that much more efficient.

Now with that said there could come a time when they would be equal when all programs/games (not just the select few there are now) are coded to actually use all 8 threads or "logical cores" on the 8320.
