Gigabyte gtx 970 is little bit same performance with strix 980 or not?

Please help.

i have Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1
and iwant to upgrade my GPU to ASUS STRIX-GTX980
i want to know how performance to improve when i upgrade?

My Monitor:
Asus VG248QE: 24-Inch 144 Hz
Resolution : 1920x1080

My spec:
i7 4790k
sabertooth mark z97
4x4 corsair platinum ram 1866mhz
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1
h100i corsair cooler
Corsair RM 850
Samsung ssd pro 128gb
1T seagate HDD

My Game to play every day is GTA V / BF 4

You should be able to OC your current card and get similar performance to the 980. Getting a 980 wouldn't be a noteworthy upgrade but getting a 980ti would be. What issues are you having to make you think you need a different gpu?

What monitor/resolution are you gaming on?

Not much really. You'll get around 20% performance gain at most if you upgrade to the 980 strix. So roughly 15 more average fps at 1080p GTA V. The gigabyte gtx 970 when overclocked heavily will almost match a REFERENCE 980 at stock speed.

Sure it is but coming from a 970 to a 980 to overclock to me is moot since the 970 can run most anything the 980 can and they both will fall short of 4k support and dont offer much beyond 1080p.


Unless you're actually having issues with the 970, I dont see the benefit of the 980 as an upgrade path. If your framerates are slightly low, I would overclock the 970 and if that doesnt quite work then you may have an actual case to buy the 980.
