Just bought a brand new E-series lenovo laptop with Windows 7 Professional and a 500 gb 5400 rpm hdd. I purchased a Samsung SSD 850 Evo in which I intend to replace the 5400 rpm HDD with right away. The laptop has not been turned on for the first time yet as I am getting it in the mail tomorrow. I am hoping that I can swap in the SSD before I load windows. Is this the smartest way to go about it? I do not know if Windows 7 was already preloaded onto the HDD or if it will come as a DVD, however. In either event, what is the best solution? Again brand new, so no files or programs to transfer over, just looking to get windows 7 moved to the new ssd drive.

At the most, the current migration tools may allow you to unselect the Libraries. Doc/Music/etc.
Other than that...all of it goes.

Decrapifier is pretty good.

Windows is going to come preloaded. Companies used to include a recovery cd with every computer, but nowadays most don't. If there is already a recovery cd included then you will just swap the SSD for the HDD, pop in the disk and follow the usual instructions. If there is not a disk, all retail computers come with the option to make your own set of recovery disks. So you will have to set up the computer and everything. Find the program that comes preloaded by lenovo and make your own set of recovery disks. You will then swap the drives and install. Another option would be to see if you know anyone with windows 7 pro installation media. You could use that and the key on the product key on your laptop. It's usually located under the battery. The last option would be to clone the drive onto the SSD but that requires both drives be plugged into the same computer.

The OS is already installed on the drive.
You will have to turn it on, if for nothing else to install some migration software.

The Samsung drive comes with a quite good migration tool.
Turn the laptop on, install the Samsung tool, migrate to the SSD.

Ok, thanks alot for the responses. I did not get the sata cable, which I now realize will probably be the simplest method of migrating the software without the original disks. I assume all the bloatware will migrate over as well, is there a good way to prevent all the junk from transferring over? Do I have to uninstall it all first on the original drive with i.e. PC Decrapifier before I migrate the OS over to the SSD? Is there a better solution than PC Decrapifier?

It's all or nothing. There is no checkbox for 'this, not that'.
Remove the bloatware first.

Ok I wasn't sure, I thought I had seen that the samsung migration software permits that. Any recommendations on good bloatware removal tools, I've read PC Decrapifier seems to be decent...
