I got my new graphics card today,(needs 500w) I had a cheapo power supply in my computer (was 700w) and when playing games the power supply began to give up the ghost pretty much, I'm now scared to play any games using my backup PSU which is a 700w CiT power supply. I'm going to be buying a new one soon, a corsair VS550 550W Power Supply, which I hope will be okay for me to run my games on. Does anyone know if a CiT 700w power supply (model 700ub) would be fine for me to play games with without it destroying itself?

System Power Supply Requirements for a single SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 285 2GB GDDR5
AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater system power supply. (Minimum system power requirement based on a PC configured with an Intel Core i7 3.2GHz 130 Watt TDP processor.)
the system power supply must also have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 36 Amps or greater
the system power supply should also have at least two 75-Watt 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!!...

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Sufficient Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most critical factor.

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) may require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock being attempted.

The CiT 700W 700UB doesn't provide the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating. This is usually an attempt to hide a weakness. It only has one 75-Watt 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector. A 700 Watt PSU with only one 75-Watt 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector? That's definitely a warning sign of a weak maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating.
