Coworker of mine is building a workstation rig. His budget is more or less a thousand, taxes in and shipped. He doesn't care to have a powerful graphics card, his main requirement was a hyperthreaded i7. Here's what I came up with:

CPU : i7-4790 http://www.ncix.com/detail/intel-core-i7-i7-4790-haswell-c9-96200-1349.htm

MOtherboard : ASROCK H97M http://www.ncix.com/detail/asrock-h97m-pro4-lga-1150-0a-97212-1349.htm

RAM: G.Skill DDR3-1600 http://www.ncix.com/detail/g-skill-ripjaws-x-f3-12800cl9d-8gbxl-8gb-ff-57953-1349.htm

256Gig Samsung SSD http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-850-evo-series-mz-75e250b-am-17-104175-1349.htm

Standard midrange case: http://www.ncix.com/detail/antec-one-mid-tower-gaming-atx-bf-67322.htm

He already has a 1TB hard drive at home and a 750W PSU. I haven't picked out a GPU because he currently plans to use his old one. That being said if anyone has suggestions for a good budget GPU please let me know.

So yeah, what do you guys think of this?

Yeah, figured you guys were thinking along the same lines as me. I offered the 750ti and he cringed a bit at the price. I'm guessing he really doesn't want to spend very much at all on a card, even one with as much value as the 750.

If he's willing to be a little over budget, get this. This CPU is a BEAST and also has 500GB of RAID SSDs. This will be able to handle all workstation needs.

If you cant go that far, get this:
