Hi,
I'm using a powercolor 7870 myst edition and my brother is using Sapphire Dual-x R9-270x
I understand that both are almost a similar card and both prices are kinda same and benchmark wise mine is suppose to be better from what i googled but why in BF4, our FPS difference is like 50?

Everything is the same and when our settings is on HIGH, he will get ~100-120FPS while i will only get 50~80FPS. Is my card spoilt?

Please help thanks!

Our motherboard is different but not so much in terms of processing speed and such though he's on a 16gb RAM while im on 8gb RAM only. But i dont think it will be that much of an fps difference.

We are both running on Dx11. I tried to change everything to be similar already :(

OS 7

Resolution both same
I just reformatted my computer so everything is fresh and both of us didnt change anything in it.
I cant really rmb whats my fps before i reformat but i think its the same.

Yeah im afraid so. What should i do?
My temperature wasnt so high last time iirc. Its around 60-70+ which is okay range.D:
When im in game, i ALT TAB and bf4 is running in "windows mode" at the desktop, my FPS increase to ~110+ and temperature ~76 degree.

Download msi afterburner & gpu-z post a screen grab of both showing default click speeds while a game us running windowed.

The must is a Tahiti core GPU - its theoretically between 10-20% more powerful than a 7870/270x.

These cards run hot though - very hot - past 92c have no doubt it will throttle.

You need very good casexaurflow to run one & you may actually get better performance by manually dropping the 3d core & memory speeds a touch.

I used to own a vertex3d black which is essentially the same card & intermittently suffered the same problems.

Essentially though - why do you feel the need to leave an unlimited fps lock - you'd be far better off keeping vsync on to keep the temps & GPU usage in check.
With a single fan these card take a long time to cool down from high GPU loads

Here's the results.
http://www.filedropper.com/hardwaremonitoring
http://www.filedropper.com/gpu-zsensorlog
http://www.filedropper.com/openhardwaremonitorreport

:(

To add on, when my FPS suddenly drops below 20, it will just stay around that range and when i quit BF4 and goes in again, the FPS is still below 20. It will only go back "normal" when i restart my computer.

its dropping clocks under load mate, from full 3d clock to the lower clocked one of 500mhz,from the gpu sensor log.

what im after off you now is simply a screen grab like this from both gpu-z & msi afterberners main osd window.

Is it possible that my gpu heat sink is spoilt?
Ah, actually im unable to provide those now. Cause my card has a 3 years warranty and im in the 2 and half year already so im taking it back to the shop to ask them see and repair for me =/

On a side note, I didnt overclock it or what. Everything is default and i just reformatted my comp only :( iirc my temp is around 60 -70 only which is in the acceptable range i believe.

Matey - the reason I asked for the gpu-z screenshot is because old bios revisions on the card throttle it under load - its a known issue but does not mean the card is faulty hardware wise.

All I'm asking for is the BIOS version from the box in cpu-z as shown above.

Your temps are fine ,your card is good up to the 95c mark spec wise.

Ah sorry im kinda noob in this =/
I just changed to my old card. Does the bios changes if i change card? If not below is a picture of my BIOS version.

I wanted to update my BIOS version but i saw online ppl say updating/flashing your bios might fried my system therefore i didn't do anything to it.

Ah i see. If i reformat my whole comp, it will be running on the factory's bios version right?
Meaning if i ever reformat next time, i needa upgrade my bios to the latest version?

Any safe instructions or link i can follow to update my BIOS? Seeing how now i MUST update it =/ Thanks alot!

No mate ,you're misunderstanding.

Its the GPU (7870 myst) that may need bios flashing.once this is done its done for good.
The rest of your PC has nothing to do with it.

If you reinstall your 7870 myst in your PC & post a screen from gpu-z I can let you know straight away if that's the problem - if it is then it can be flashed to the latest bios from within windows in a couple of minutes.

Ah =/
I will update you again once i got back my card.
Really thanks alot and appreciate it for your help! :D

Just to ask, will reformatting my PC change my GPU and CPU BIOS version?
And does CPU bios update itself? Cause i checked my CPU bios and its AUG 2013 but i bought my PC on the DEC 2012 and i dont rmb updating anything.

Throttling aside, another main worry is why my fps and my bro's fps has a 60+ fps difference in bf4? Which is really alloooot :(

Can someone help me with my following Questions here?
Thank you!

No ,once you update/flash a bios on the motherboard or GPU it is hardlocked & will remain on that bios unless you go through the same procedure again.

I have no idea how hardware can show a bios dated 2013 when it was purchased in 2012 - that sounds odd.

Regarding your 7870.
It has quite literally 3 different core clock speeds.
150mhz 2d clock - for desktop/internet/media playback use
500mhz 3d clock- for low power 3d apps
950mhz 3d clock - for high power 3d apps

When you game the card should automatically switch to that highest 950mhz clock giving the best performance.
What yours appears to be doing from those results you posted is either fluctuating between the 2 3d clock speeds and/or sticking at the lower 500mhz speed which is essentially halving performance.

This is synonymous with problems associated with bios version 31 for your card ,power color released an updated bios version 32 which solves this issue.
This issue affected all cards based on the 7870 Tahiti chipset not just the power color one.

Thanks for the reply! :D
In that case, why do my 7870 myst suddenly start to have such problem when previously it does not have any? Is it possibly cause of alot other factors affecting it?

Hmm cause when i bought it 2years ago till now i didnt touch any bios or such and suddenly it causes me problem D:

Are you absolutely certain that its performed better before in the past?
Its quite possible that you've never been getting the full potential from the card.
You may be right, it may indeed be a hardware fault BUT the bios version would be the first thing id check as its a known issue on these cards.

Yeah iirc. I see D: When i get back my card i will see how is it and update you again ^^
Anyway im using my old HD5780 and sometimes in BF4, my FPD will drop to below 20+ suddenly and after that it will go back up normal. Sometimes long sometimes short. Is it possible is my MOBO having issues?
