Hey,

So im thinking of changing to an mATX system and wanted to know if changing from an ASRock 970 Extreme4 to a 970M Pro3 would be plug and play (as far as I see they're the same chipset) or would I need to go through the pain of reinstall/OOBE?

Current Board: ASRock 970 Extreme4: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970%20Extreme4/
New: ASRock 970M Pro3: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/970M%20Pro3/

I won't be changing anything else (same drives, gfx card, cpu, ram etc).

Thanks,
Jon

Ideally, reinstalling your OS is the best option.
Simply changing the motherboard can cause driver issues. Plus windows probably will detect the change and require you to enter your product key. If your licence is an Window 7 OEM then you will need another product key.

What cpu cooler are you using?
I would consider a top-down cpu cooler which can help to cooler the vrm on that motherboard. That particular 970M Pro3 isn't that great. Don't attempt to overclock it either.

using a Corsair H60

You might want to consider to have some airflow going towards these vrm heatsink on the motherboard.

Okay, but is it possible to swap these boards out in place or will a windows reinstall be required?
