Did I set up a good gaming build?

I plan on upgrading hard drive capacity when the time comes that I need more and the case is actually the thermaltake s31 snow edition. I also got another fan for cooling and am hoping that the stock cooling on the i5 will be enough? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, good job. This is a solid mid to high end build. I would say that I wouldn't recommend the stock cpu fan because if you get something a little better you can start to overclock that cpu and it would really make it great. In my mind it would be a shame not to OC it. Look up some youtube vids on clocking it and you might be surprised with the improvements, it turns it from good to great.

Latest flagship GPU, top tier processor. Can only call this a high end build in my mind, at least in terms of performance.

Just missing a nice case, aftermarket CPU cooler, and maybe a bit of color coordination, but in that case it doesn't really matter.

Well I'd prefer the 5820 HE for my high end chip but yes this is a good CPU. But he should really get a nice cooler to put it to use.

If we are limiting ourselves to critiquing only on gaming performance then the best processor has been chosen for the job if the budget is to be maintained and the GPU kept as a 980Ti.

5820 has some value in that it gets you into DDR4, but then you have to pay for it and the motherboard to match. Then you also have to buy a heatsink. End result is something that performs identically in the majority of games.

Would still pick an i7-4790k build over a 5820k at this point. SLI capabilities are effectively the same.

Wouldn't jump on the X99 bandwagon unless I was planning for 3 GPUs.

Right just gaming it's perfect but I like to do some video editing/ game design. Plus there's nothing like being on the top.

It is a very standard build that is done on pcpartpicker.com with the same parts most of the users use. Good build overall.

The only real things to add are aftermarket cooling (AIO) for overclocking and a large platter based 7200rpm hard drive for storage. I personally would kick it up to 16 gig of RAM as well since it's pretty cheap right now.
