I'm building a PC for the first time as a summer project, and I'm trying to build a gaming PC. The absolute maximum for my budget is £1000, so ideally I'm trying to get something for around £800. I have picked some parts, but would like some advice as to whether or not this build is any good or if there are any incompatibilities between components.

Processor: Intel i5-4690K
Motherboard: Asus Z97-K Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX
Memory: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 8GB (2x4GB)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB
SSD: Samsung 850 Pro SSD
Graphics card: msi GeForce GTX 970
Power supply: Corsair VS550
Case: Corsair 300R
CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

I will also be buying Windows 8.1 for my OS. I already have a keyboard, mouse and monitor.

I am planning on building this because I need something a little better than my 3 year old laptop for playing games. Currently I play Skyrim, Just Cause 2, TF2 and Minecraft, but I would like to be able to play most games at high settings.

What do you think? Thanks in advance for any advice.

i see no issues with compatibility. looks great otherwise. only thing i might change is downgrade the 850 from pro to evo. isnt worth the price difference and has little improvement. you will be able to play more than just high settings with that build.
