so i have decided to ditch my faithful core 2 quad q6600 and buy a used i5 2500k system complete for $200 / i wanted to ask about the gpu/ i am getting a gtx 670 (slightly used and in good condition) for $200 which really fits my budget or i could get a gtx 960 brand new from gigabyte for $280 (prices are a lot in my country :p)which one should i get / would there be any bottleneck if i get either of the two / i have also heard 670 wont support dx 12 completely

The 670 is a better bang for your buck, but the 960 is slightly more powerful, and provides a better experience.

960 has a faster GPU, but the 670 isn't far behind. The 670 also has better memory bandwidth, but the 960 has better compression, so that part is roughly equal. They also both have 2gb of ram.

There are some clear advantages for the 960 though. First it is new, not used, so it should go longer without issue, but if the 670 is in good condition it might not matter. Second, it uses less power 170w vs 120w. This also means it is quieter. It also overclocks well, so if you do overclock it will be even more powerful compared to the 670. Finally the 960 is a maxwell card, which means it gets better drivers support in some...

Finally the 960 is a maxwell card, which means it gets better drivers support in some cases, and you get a few cool futures like DSR, which would let you play certain older or less demanding games at 1800p, and down sample it to 900p, which is like the ultimate form of anti-aliasing.

None of these advantages in their own make the 960 much better, but together it's simply a better experience (cooler, quitter, more consistent with better drivers.) and a little bit more powerful. So even though the performance per dollar if the 670 is going to be slightly better, I would get the 960.

The 670 should be good for 900p. For perspective, it's more powerful than a ps4, which mostly renders at 900p or 1080p.

If you are on a budget as tight as you are describing, the 670 will do well, but make sure your PSU is powerful enough.

What model GTX 670 it is? I have Gigabyte windforce 3x, and it has lower load / idle temperature than other gtx 670 model. It has 3 fans and even on full load you can stay under 55C... First temperature where performance decreases is 70C but you never get there with proper fan settings. You can also overclock this model quite easily to +75-100 core and +few hundred memory clock. After 100+ core it goes unstable for me.
Previous owner used it for 3 years and overclocked it also, still running this cool and working well without even cleaning fans. I paid 120 euros for this, so 200$ is really too much. for 100-140$ you could buy it.

its the gigabyte model sir / exactly same as yours / well i told you, the country i live in is soooper shit and prices a gawddamn high than you can imagine 280x is still being sold for like 400 bucks / 970 is 550 bucks 980 is 800 bucks too much inflation on gpu . cpu prices / fx 8350 is being sold for 300 bucks lol /i would hae got amd long ago if the prices were the same as states ;-; i have made my mind on a gtx 960 for 270bucks and i would be using 900p screen resolution so will the gtx 960 handle 900p with all games on ultra-high for now?
